Honda Civic Type R aluminum hood repair with PPF

We removed a dent from the front section of a hood on a brand new Honda Civic Type R. The dent occurred while the client was driving on the beltway around Washington, DC. This dent repair had multiple factors that contributed to a challenging repair.

  1. The hood is made of aluminum, which is a stiffer and less malleable material than steel. Heat, patience, and sharp tools are required when removing dents from aluminum with the PDR method.

  2. The access was limited. The front section of the hood on this civic is constructed of multiple layers of metal. The only access points to the underside of this dent was through two very small factory holes on the front edge.

  3. The car is covered with a protective film, known as PPF (paint protection film). Think of PPF as an updated and much less noticeable version of clear bras. PPF makes for a difficult repair because the top surface of the metal reacts differently. It also ads a slight visual impairment while performing paintless dent repair.
